About our Method
The Science and Art of Skating:
A Method Built for Adults to Thrive
Here’s what I discovered after performing across 40+ countries and completing my Master’s research at Trinity Laban Conservatoire:
The key element missing from most skating training is body awareness — the ability to feel exactly where your body is in space while moving.
Without this foundation, you can’t consistently implement corrections. With it? Everything changes.
That’s why I developed the SkateSmart Somatic Method™, a 5-part system that teaches you to skate from the inside out:
Part 1: Floor Foundation – Master movement patterns in your living room first. No balance challenges, no fear — just pure skill building.
Part 2: Visual Blueprint – See techniques broken down in detail. Understand not just what to do, but why it works.
Part 3: Audio Activation – This is the game-changer. I’m literally in your ear during on-ice practice, guiding you in real-time on the path to creative expression.
Part 4: The Mental Game – Learn to self-evaluate, track progress, and set goals that keep you on your path.
Part 5: Personal Feedback – Join live coaching calls and get direct feedback on your skating.
Whether you’re taking your first steps on the ice or refining advanced footwork, this method meets you exactly where you are and supports you as you grow.
Meet me - your coach Maja
Hey there! 👋
I’m Maja, and skating has been a cornerstone of my life since age three, from junior competitions to performing as a principal in ice shows across 40+ countries to choreographing for Olympians.
But here’s what changed everything: at 28, already a decade into my professional career, I walked into Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London. The somatic movement methods I discovered there revolutionized not just my skating, but how I understand learning itself. It gave me the space to discover my own unique movement style on the ice, something I’d pushed aside while striving to fit the mold of the “classical skater look.”
I realized I’d been skating from the outside in, forcing movements, pushing through. The somatic approach taught me to skate from the inside out, feeling first, then moving.
This is where the SkateSmart Somatic Method™ was born.
As someone who constantly embraces new challenges as an adult, whether it’s my tennis serve or learning a musical instrument, I understand firsthand the joy and the frustrations of mastering new skills later in life. You need to understand the why and feel the how.
That’s exactly what I’m here to help you do.
I believe you deserve professional-level instruction in a welcoming, non-judgmental space. I believe your body contains wisdom waiting to be discovered. And I believe it’s never too late to transform your skating.
My greatest joy? Watching adult skaters finally feel the difference, and seeing that breakthrough moment when everything clicks.
I can’t wait to help you get there.
Our Students’ stories
“A completely new view on the way how the training process can be arranged and what focus it can have.”
Anastasiia
“There are so many untapped opportunities at how we can make our skating experience and quality better. The course provided that in an innovative fashion that I believe anyone can benefit from. Small changes can have such a big impact on the ice, and that is exciting and super encouraging!”
Miruna
“I am working on my basis right now; on doing things properly instead of fast. This course has helped me a lot to gain balance, stability, and an overall much improved feeling on the ice.”
Corrine
“The course gave me the understanding of the importance of feeling my body, controlling my breath and to practice skating skills off ice.”
Kateryna
“I’ve noticed how much my crossrolls in particular have improved, including when I do crossrolls in hold with my skating partner, who also took the class. I also feel like some of the information and observations about alignment, breathing and gravity through back three-turns have helped my loop jump be more stable.”
Anna
“Great opportunity to focus on body awareness, breathing, and plus rehabilitation from my injury (recent one – shoulder).”
Happy.Sk8ter
“The timing of the audio guide was exactly right. I can actually concentrate better on the exercise with Maja;s voice in my ear than without. Also the complex elements are easier to do with the audio guide, as I experience the missing gaze of the coach in this situation as enriching. I might not have an individual correction right away, but more time trying out myself with guidance in the meantime.”
